Intermediate and advanced classes of Business English, and in-house company courses. The book is for working people, whatever field of 'business / work' they are in, and whatever level in the company hieararchy.
Students discuss questions, which are either in the form of a factual quiz, or related to an authentic text / quotation.
The questions and texts break with the approach typically used in ESL /EFL textbooks by presenting a new slant on some traditional topics, and also offering topics that are rarely, if ever, discussed in an Business English class. Students will feel they are discussing something interesting, and that the language of discussion just happens to be in English.
Preparation involves reading the texts and questions, and deciding whether they are suitable or not for particular students. Those exercises that might not be suitable for certain students are marked . Details are outlined in the Teachers Introduction and the Students Introduction.
From 10-minute warm ups to full-blown 60-minute discussions depending on the students' level of involvement.
Neither teachers nor students need to have a background in business, finance or economics. The topics discussed in the book are the same topics that would be found in a quality daily newspaper.
